This is a Chinese agate from the area of the Traditional Mine in Hebei, China. These are also called Fighting Blood agates, although this agate is quite unusual and that is why I chose it. Under magnification it has fine banding, microspheres, beautiful red, orange, yellow and white coloration with a large white orb in the center. There is a yellow triangular agate pattern at the top and the edge is rimmed with an uneven black band. Something tried or impeded the full agate formation at the top center but, I think it adds to the unique beauty of this agate.

This is a Laguna agate from Chihuahua, Mexico. Lagunas are coveted by collectors for the gorgeous colors and patterns they display and this one is a beauty. The pinks and blues are light but, well defined with parallax or chatoyancy on the left side both on the upper and lower banding. There are two orbicular structures on the right and a deep center under magnification. By the look of the rock, a lucky cut. There are no fractures

This is a Coyamito agate from Chihuahua, Mexico. This Coyamito has beautiful peach coloroed banding in a sea of amber silica/chalcedony. The center is quartz crystal. This is a Coyamito from Chihuahua, Mexico. This is an older Coyamito of a completely different style. The mine owner told me he has one like it in his own collection. It has a black, then red band around a white band, all with fine banding within them and in the center are floating white orbs. Some bitumen got into this agate during formation which makes it more interesting to imagine how these agates form in these different localities. There are two tiny fractures on the upper right edge and the apertures are slightly open in the dark areas. It has a mirror polish.

This is a Patagonia Agate from Patagonia, Argentina. This is agate formation at it's best! There are five infiltration or escape tubes with the one at the bottom being the most obvious and outstanding example. The white banding is so deep you can see down into the the agate and see the sides of the fibrous bands, especially with magnification. The colors are rose, green, yellow and white. It has a fracture on the side but, it does not detract from the beauty of this agate. It has a mirror polish.

This is a Ploczki Gorne agate from the famous agate locality in Poland. It is small but most of the ones I saw for sale there were small. This agate is really unusual as it is mostly silica but it has those lovely tubes running through it as well as red microspheres and green celadonite. It is especially visible when held up to light with magnification. The book, Agates From Ploczki Gorne in Lower Silesia, Poland is what inspired me to begin my love for agates.

This is a Dendritic Turkish Agate also known as Majestic Opal from Turkey. This agate is mostly black with some white and blue at the center with a wonderful display of dendrites running through it. The white edges and the center also flouresce under UV light. Sorry I didn't get a photo under UV light but, I can send one on request. There are a couple of dings around the edges but, no fractures into the agate. It has a mirror polish.

5.2 x 4.2 x 2 cm -

This is a Botswana agate and weighs 60 grams. It has a pink osculum (escape tube) and pink tones through to the center. Red and pink are highly desirable in Botswanas. This one has incomplete banding, but the banding is very well developed. The banding occurs because of the positive charge that develops along the edge of the material that gets into the agate as it floats in the liquid silica. There is one fracture at the top near the edge that does not interfere with the banding.
